RYE BROOK, N.Y. ? Residents were called on to work together to maintain Rye Brook's financial good standing during Mayor Joan Feinstein's State of the Village Address.

Feinstein said the village stayed within the state-mandated tax cap, but had to look at areas where it could save money.

“There were some areas where we had to do some sort of belt-tightening,” she said.

Feinstein made her fifth and final state of the village address to board members and residents Tuesday.

The village finished the 2012 fiscal year with $3 million dollars in its fund balance, or account the village has on hand to use for services throughout its municipality. The village uses 19 percent of this for its operating budget, according to Feinstein.

Feinstein also said the village brought in $550,000 from the newly implemented hotel tax.

Feinstein also touched on the possibility of dissolving Rye Town as a political entity, saying officials are still debating that topic.

“It’s a work in progress,” said Feinstein.

In regard to public works and recent storms, Feinstein said residents handled Hurricane Sandy well and that public works employees were diligent in getting things back to normal.

Feinstein said she was also proud to announce that the board approved two affordable housing proposals last year on Ellendale Avenue, and Farber Place, and Roman Avenue that will give low-income residents places to live.
