RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye Arts Center will host Arts Exploration Week in August for youths with learning or social sensitivities to build confidence and companionship through art.
The curriculum for the course will include painting, writing and media arts. The classes are designed to promote social interaction and team building in a positive environment. The instructor will be Gary Mack, who prides himself on his ability to encourage children who love to learn in non-traditional ways, and is a self-proclaimed "giver of knowledge and a facilitator of each child's unique learning style and adventure."
"It's been proven that art, music and, increasingly, the digital arts play an important role in a child's cognitive and social development," said Helen Gates, executive director of the Rye Arts Center. "We want to tap into the creative minds of young folks who think and learn in non-traditional ways. And if we can provide a fun, social setting for that during the summer, all the better."
Week one will run from Aug. 5 to 9 and is for children ages 8 to 10 years old. The second week will be from Aug. 12 to 16 and is for kids ages 11 to 13 years old. For more information about classes and registration, visit the Rye Arts Center website or call 914-967-0700.
