Resurrection Church Buys United Methodist Church Of Rye

RYE, N.Y. -- The Church of the Resurrection has purchased the former site of the United Methodist Church of Rye to help alleviate some of its parking problems.

The one-and-a-half acre property is located just 50 feet away from the Church of the Resurrection. The United Methodist Church closed its doors in 2012 due to declining membership and put the property up for sale. After consulting with the Archdiocese of New York, the Church of the Resurrection decided to buy the property.

The purchase will create 70 to 75 additional parking spaces for the Church of the Resurrection, which has experienced a serious shortage of parking for church, school and extracurricular activities. Parishioners and visitors have had to park as far away as Rye High School to attend events. Spaces at the Methodist Church have been used by residents of the Blind Brook Lodge co-op, but a new parking lot is being built that residents will be able to utilize.
