Parking, Other Football Game Warnings Issued Before Rye-Harrison Rivalry

HARRISON, N.Y. -- The annual "It's Great to Live in Harrison" and Columbus Day celebration will feature a weekend of fireworks, football classic against Rye and parade. 

The West Harrison Fire Department will host a fireworks display Saturday at 7 p.m. Rain date is Sunday. 

On Saturday, Harrison's varsity football team will host the 85th annual matchup against the Garnets of Rye High School.

Kickoff is at 11 a.m., but spectators will not be allowed to enter the high school grounds before 9 a.m. Anticipating a large crowd, Harrison Central School District sent out a list of rules and suggested precautions about parking. (See below)

On Sunday, the Harrison Police Headquarters will host an Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a PBA Car Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the West Harrison Business District. 

On Monday, the annual Columbus Day parade will begin on the corner of Halstead and Thatcher at 10 a.m. Line-up begins at 9:30 a.m. A festival will follow at Ma Riis Park. 

Admission to Saturday's football game costs $5. Children under 4 are free. Spectators are not allowed on the high school property at 255 Union Ave. prior to 9 a.m.

Several parking locations are available. Due to the extreme volume of attendance, Rye/Harrison spectators are encouraged to carpool.

Shuttle service will be provided from each of the parking areas listed below in the 10528 zip code. Buses for Rye and Harrison fans will be provided.

Parking locations include Louis M. Klein Middle School at 50 Union Ave., Harrison, as well as at 550 and 600 Mamaroneck Ave. in Harrison.

Parking is prohibited along side streets near Harrison High School. Illegally parked cars will be ticketed, school officials warned.

Officials also advised that the following items or behavior is prohibited on school property: Alcohol/ open containers, dogs/pets, footballs and other athletic activity during the game, smoking, masks, noisemakers/signs, tailgating or weapons. 

Bags may be searched by the Harrison Police Department prior to entry.

To ensure an enjoyable experience for Rye and Harrison, spectators are expected to behave or they will be subject to removal, Harrison Central School District warned in a statement.
