RYE/PORT CHESTER, N.Y. Despite state warnings and reports of 1,800 Con Ed customers without power throughout Westchester County Thursday night, only one outage was reported in Port Chester and none in Rye as of 9 p.m., according to the Con Edison outage report.
Just hours before the predicted thunderstorm hit the area, the power company brokered a deal with union workers, effectively ending the lockout that began July 1.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a statement earlier in the day urging residents to take precautions against thunderstorms and possible tornadoes. The state Emergency Operations Center was activated at 1 p.m. following a declaration of moderate risk of severe weather for residents throughout New York.
Showers and thunderstorms were expected to continue throughout Thursday night in Port Chester and Rye, with a low around 67 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. On Friday, expect a high of 90 degrees and a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon and before 9 p.m., with the possibility of gusty winds and heavy rain. Through the rest of the weekend there may be some thunderstorms and showers tapering off by Sunday.
