Sam Lubin, 48, was ejected from his car after driving off the road and into some trees Monday, state police sad. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.
Nick Franzoso, captain of the corps, said he hasn’t received an update on his condition.
“Sam’s been a great help to us,” he said. “He’s been there to help us grow. It’s upsetting to see a fellow worker and friend injured in any shape or fashion.”
Franzoso started with the corps as a volunteer 12 years ago at the same time Lubin began as a per diem paramedic. Lubin also worked as a paramedic for St. Clares Hosptal from 1987 to January 2007, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He attended New York Medical College, where he earned both his masters and phD in public health. He also attended Westchester County Career Fire Chief’s Academy and Westchester Community College.
In 2006, Lubin was promoted to supervisor at the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corp. He then became the agency’s first chief, after helping it to become its own taxing district. Franzoso said Lubin helped the corps get recognized in 2008 as the agency of the year by the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services.
He also worked with the Town of Ossining board, including the late Martha Dodge, to expand the corps' coverage area.
“He worked with the late Martha Dodge and members of the town board and moved us into the next step of becoming a tax district and growing our coverage to help out Sleepy Hollow and Croton-on-Hudson,” Franzoso said.
The ambulance district takes approximately 3,500 calls annually within a diverse population and operates on a $1.5 million budget with more than 60 workers, according to his LinkedIn page.
The father of two likes to travel to the Cape with his family during the summer, Franzoso said.
“He’s a real family, stand-up guy,” he sad.
