These funds are held within the New York State’s Unclaimed Funds Program, managed by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. They can be accessed online by clicking here.

"The dollar amounts may or may not be huge, but whatever they are, it is found money that was not budgeted," said Latimer. "It can't hurt their bottom line and every so often, a large sum is found and it can significantly help their bottom line." One or more claims were uncovered for the Village of Rye Brook, the Blind Brook School District, the Port Chester-Rye Brook Library, Port Chester Village Court, the Town of Rye and its local EMS organization. A claim was also provided to each of the two local churches, Our Lady of Mercy and Holy Rosary.

Latimer's office can assist in filing for the unclaimed money. The funds were owed by various companies including W.B.Mason, Verizon, CVS, Avis, Konica/Minolta and The Hartford Life. Exact amounts of each claim are not released in the fund registry, but are kept in confidence until the claimant is deemed to be the rightful owner of the funds.
