Investigators Probe Port Chester Teen's Death In Abandoned Hospital

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Port Chester is mourning the loss of a 14-year-old boy who died from injuries he suffered on Tuesday night after falling through the roof of an abandoned Westchester County hospital while police investigate the case.

The teen fell down an elevator shaft at the former United Hospital building on Tuesday night, falling several stories, police said. The name of the boy has not yet been released.

Port Chester Mayor Richard Falanka noted that the incident is still under police investigation. Additional details are expected to be released as they become available.

“Last night, a young man died from a fall at the former United Hospital site. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the victim. The entire village mourns this tragic loss with them. They are not alone in grief.”

United Hospital has been abandoned for more than a decade, since it shuttered its doors in 2005.
