RYE, N.Y. -- An active investigation is under way into the death of Marisa Curlen, a 20-year-old Rye High School graduate, who was found dead in her dorm room at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., early Friday morning, according to reports.
The autopsy is pending, but reports on both News 12 and CBS New York cited alcohol poisoning as the believed cause of the death.
Bill Wyatt, James Madison's associate director of communications, told the JMU student newspaper, the Breeze, that “the university has limited information about the matter" and that the Harrisonburg Police Department is handling the investigation.
Curlen, a sophomore who played varsity volleyball at Rye, was found dead between midnight and 8 a.m., according to News 12 Westchester. The medical examiner has not released the cause of death, the report said.
Curlen is the third Rye High School Class of 2013 graduate to die in college.
