The boy has been identified as Chris Aguilar, who was a freshman at Port Chester High School.

The teen fell down an elevator shaft at the former United Hospital building on Tuesday night, falling several stories, police said. Several of Aguilar's friends witnessed the fall, Port Chester Schools Superintendent Edward Kliszus said in an email to the school community.

Those boys have been offered counseling services. Counselors will also be available for all Port Chester students, including home visits for those who may be too upset to attend class.

Port Chester Mayor Richard Falanka noted that the incident is still under police investigation. Additional details are expected to be released as they become available.

“Last night, a young man died from a fall at the former United Hospital site. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the victim. The entire village mourns this tragic loss with them. They are not alone in grief.”

United Hospital has been abandoned for more than a decade, since it shuttered its doors in 2005.
