RYE, N.Y. Traffic was redirected around Milton Road between Dearborn Avenue and Oakland Beach Road on Monday afternoon while authorities investigated a reported gas leak in the area. The road was reopened at approximately 6 p.m.
Fire Chief George Hogben said the leak was originally detected in the sewers but the source of the leak remains undetermined as of Monday evening.
Rye City Police Officer Klein said authorities were notified of the leak around 4 p.m. Roughly a dozen Rye City firefighters and Con Edison representatives were investigating the matter along with Rye City police.
The Corner Stone, located within the enclosed area, was of interest to fire department officials. At approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday there were two fire trucks, two Con Edison vehicles, and one police cruiser on the scene.
