STAMFORD, Conn. — Friends and family of James “Jimmy” Decrescenzo filed into Holy Rosary Church in Port Chester, N.Y., on Monday to celebrate the life of the man brutally murdered last week in Stamford.
Decrescenzo was found June 25 in Uncle Buck’s Laundromat, bludgeoned to death during an apparent robbery attempt. Police do not know whether he knew his assailant.
The 50-year-old laundromat worker's death prompted an outpouring of support from those knew him in Stamford and from his friends in Port Chester who have been honoring his memory.
Neighbors of the West Side laundromat held a vigil for Decrescenzo on Tuesday night and presented a signed poster to his family. They have also maintained a small memorial to Decrescenzo around the lawn chair where he sat outside the laundromat.
Others who knew Decrescenzo set up an account on FundRazr to raise money to help the family pay his funeral expenses. As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, the account reported having $2,058.
Police are still investigating and sorting through information to determine how Decrescenzo was killed and by whom.
