The owner of the building, which has apartments upstairs and retail space on the lower level, is doing work on the building, Rye City Manager Marcus A. Serrano confirmed.
While he did not know what the owner intends to do with the property and did not reveal who the owner is, he said the lower level would remain a retail space.
The building housed the shop until it closed March 31, when the lease was not renewed, said several reports.

Mother and son Peggy and Tony D'Onofrio Jr. ran the shop at 53 Purchase St., which Peggy and her late husband, Tony, started 46 years ago, the reports said.
