Downed Wires Force Closure of Rye's Milton Road

Update: 3:30 p.m. - According to the Rye City Police Department, a tractor trailer traveling on Milton road caught low power lines, causing the road closure. Police got the call around 1:50 pm and Con Ed workers estimate the road would be reopened by 4 p.m.

RYE, N.Y. - Milton Road between Parsons Street and Apawamis Avenue in Rye was closed Tuesday afternoon due to downed wires, police said.

The closure occurred directly in front of the high school and traffic was diverted around the school onto Route 1. About a half dozen emergency trucks were on the scene about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials were concerned that high school and middle school dismissal could be affected by the closure and asked residents to plan accordingly. Police were not sure when the lines would be repaired and the road reopened.
