RYE, N.Y. -- With schools back in session, traffic safety around children is a major concern for parents, and it's up to the traffic and pedestrian safety committee to address such concerns.
"With traffic around schools, it's all about making sure the kids are safe," said Brian Dempsey, who chairs the volunteer committee.
At its monthly meeting Thursday evening, the committee discussed several traffic issues around Rye, including one at Osborn School along Boston Post Road.
It has been observed that many parents and children attempt to cross Boston Post Road at Sonn Drive where there are no crosswalks, stop signs or traffic signals.
Dempsey said the committee is still looking at several solutions to the issue, such as adjusting signal timings at nearby stoplights, but it would ultimately be up to the city to decide.
