RYE, N.Y. – A 72-year-old woman residing at The Osborn retirement community on Theall Road in Rye was attacked and injured early Monday morning by an intruder, according to the Rye City Police Department.

Rye Police Commissioner William Connors said the woman had been released from Greenwich Hospital by noon after being treated for her injuries. He also said preliminary investigations found the intruder went through the garage at the Osborn to get to the living quarters.

Kieran O’Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County police, said during the course of the investigation into the intruder, a suspicious package was found. Bomb squad specialists from Westchester County police were called in and found the package was nonthreatening.

“There was an abundance of caution. They waited to have the bomb squad come in and take a look at it,” said O’Leary, adding he did not have more information on what the package was.
