RYE, N.Y. – Rye YMCA Adventure Campers visited the Tibetan Drepung Gomang Monks of the Dalai Lama, who presented a storytelling pageant at the Wainwright House on Monday.

The monks, who are making their annual visit to the Wainwright House, used vivid storytelling to educate their audience about ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture. “It was an awesome experience,” said Cindy Rodriguez, assistant Adventure Camp director, in a release. Rye Y Adventure Campers spend the summer visiting various destinations like baseball games and amusement parks, as well as participating in service projects.

The monks will present a program aimed at adults, “Prayers, Chants, and Life Stories,” on Thursday from 7:30 to 9:15 p.m. at Wainwright House, located at 260 Stuyvesant Avenue. Gomang is the oldest college of the Tibetan Drepung Monastery. The ten monks will share their stories, describe life in the monastery and answer questions.

In addition, a Tibetan Handicrafts Store will be open at Wainwright from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday. All proceeds benefit the mission of the Drepung Gomang Monks.
