DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Fifth-grade students at Dobbs Ferry Springhurst Elementary School are honoring the victims of the tragedies in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif. this New Year with 2:36 of song.
In a YouTube video , posted last week, the school's "Harmonaires" celebrate Lady Liberty, a gift from the French, and dedicate the song "She Holds Her Torch For Me," to the victims and families of the Paris and San Bernardino attacks, which occurred on Nov. 13 and Dec. 2, respectively.
The song was written by Springhurst Music Teacher George Swietlicki with lyrics by Felicia Needleman and Dobbs Ferry parent Laurence Holzman, according to an email from Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. The song is from the Springhurst original musical, "We All Are America."
Swietlicki's Harmonaires have been the subject of national attention in the past, according to Feiner.
"When I was first starting my career in government, I remember how excited the community was when the Harmonaires were invited to perform at the White House," the supervisor said. "(Swietlicki) is a real asset to our community."
