RYE, N.Y. -- Seaside Johnnies has abandoned its waterfront restaurant at Rye Town Park.

Its departure after 17 years of operation follows months of unsuccessful talks between John Ambrose, co-owner of the restaurant, and the Rye Town Park Commission.

Both sides were unable to reach a contract agreement so the space along Oakland Beach was vacated Friday, Rye Town Supervisor Gary Zuckerman, who also serves as president of the park commission, told LoHud.Com.

Ambrose previously told LoHud.com and The Rye City Review that he would not agree to a one-year extension of the contract that the park commission offered in October.

In November, Carlos Medrano, one of the partners at Purdy Partners LLC which operates the Harrison Tavern, told Daily Voice he was handling day-to-day operations in a "transition," but did not confirm the restaurant would extend its license.

Earlier this month, there was lots of construction activity going on at the adjoining Playland property and workers going in and out of Seaside Johnnies.
