Rye's Casey, Altman Foundation CFO, Dies at 66

RYE BROOK, N.Y. - John Patrick Casey, of Rye Brook, died Dec. 6 at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut, surrounded by family and friends. He was 66.

Casey was born Jun. 5, 1945 and was raised in the Upper West Side of New York City. Described as the "quintessential fun-loving Irishman," Casey was an Irish step-dancing champion in his youth, along with his brother Roger. A veteran, he was a proud member of the Army's "Fighting 69th."

The former chief financial officer of the B. Altman and Company department store chain, Casey began his current position as CFO and treasurer of the Altman Foundation, an organization aimed at enriching the quality of life in New York City, in 1992. 

He was a longtime member of the Union League Club, where he served as president for three years. Casey also formerly served on the boards of St. Agnes Hospital and LaSalle Academy and most recently as a member of Lincoln Hall.

His involvement in local Rye organizations included acting as commissioner of the Rye Little League and memberships to the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the Rye Fish and Hame Club, ULC Trap and Skeet Team and the "PotatoeHeads." 

Casey's membership at the Westchester Country Club was marked with excellence of the golf course, by way of an unorthodox but effective swing. 

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Kathy Casey, his daughter Erin (Brian) Appleton, his son Sean and a grandson.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Church of the Resurrection in Rye.
