Rye YMCA Offers Free Programs In May's 'Active Adults Month'

RYE, N.Y. -- An array of free programs and a special free membership for older adults is offered at the Rye Y to promote healthy living in May which is Active Adults Month.

The joiners fee will be waived and there are free programs for adults, ages 62 and over, in May at the Rye Y to promote active living.

The joiners fee ($100) will be waived for those age 62 and older through May 20.

“Today’s older adults want to be more active, engaged and in control of their health,” said Laura Tiedge, the Y’s Senior Director of Healthy Living. “The Rye Y can help them reach their goals.” 

The following are offered free:

May's Brown Bag Lunch Series:

  • Wednesday, May 4, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Estate Planning/Elder Law 101
  • Wednesday, May 11, Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body - Alzheimer’s Association 
  • Wednesday, May 18, Aging in Place 

A Caregivers' Day is set for Wednesday, May 6. For details/RSVP, email diana@ryeymca.org.

A Senior Wellness Day is set for Friday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for all community members. Blood pressuring monitoring, light lunch and speaker, several exercise classes and giveaways are planned. Registration is required to Diana@ryeymca.org or penny@ryeymca.org 

A Nutritious Cooking for One or Two will take place Friday, May 20, from 11 a.m. to noon. Snacks and samples will be provided.

Learn how to "Move for Better Balance" Tuesday, May 10 from 2 to 3 and about meditation in "Relax and Renew with Nora" Sunday, May 15, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.

Rounding out the month, Tech Day will guide participants through the internet on Monday, May 23 from 5 to 6 p.m.
