Rye YMCA Announces Winners In 'Heads Up!' Poster Contest

RYE, N.Y. -- It’s no secret that texting and driving can lead to tragedy, but teens seem to be catching on that it can also be dangerous if you’re just walking around, say officials at the Rye YMCA.

The organization sponsored a “Heads Up!” poster contest targeting distracted locomotion of any kind.

Dozens of students at Rye High School entered their artwork in the contest, the YMCA said.

Here are the winners:

  • 1st Place: Lara Martin.
  • 2nd Place: Crispian J. Thorne.
  • 3rd Place: Manon Veltman.

These are the community judges who selected the winners:

  • Lt. Scott Craig, of the Rye City Police Department.
  • Gregg Howells, the Y’s executive director.
  • Adam Levi, senior director, The Rye Arts Center.
  • Christian Miller, a city planner.
  • Nancy Pasquale, a member of the Rye Board of Education.
  • Claire Simonelli, senior vice president of Resource Development, United Way of Westchester and Putnam.

The poster contest was supported in part by United Way of Westchester and Putnam, in partnership with the PepsiCo Foundation.
