RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Cindy and Adam Zahl are spending their second summer with 11-year-old Jasiya in July, through The Fresh Air Fund's Volunteer Host Family Program.
When Cindy Zahl’s friends from Rye Brook shared their positive experiences from being a part of The Fresh Air Fund's Volunteer Host Family Program, she decided to give it a try. Cindy, her husband Adam, and their daughters Abby and Olivia opened their hearts and home to Jasiya, of the Bronx, and Jasiya joined the Zahl family for a week in August of 2014.
This year she returned to spend 10 days with the family, something both Jasiya and the Zahl family are looking forward to.
“The first thing we did last year when Jasiya arrived was go to dinner at Kelly’s Sea Level, and that’s exactly what we are going to do this year too,” Zahl said.
This new tradition is something that the Zahls are very happy they’ve been able to start with Jasiya. Last summer, the Zahl girls and Jasiya spent a lot of time shopping and going to the movie theater.
“I took the girls to get their nails done. They loved it! Jasiya had so much fun,” said Zahl.
Jasiya also enjoyed summer camp, riding her bike, and helping Zahl in the kitchen preparing meals. While the memories of last summer are still exciting, this summer, the Zahls have even more fun planned.
Zahl’s experience with The Fresh Air Fund's Volunteer Host Family Program has been very positive and she hopes that other families give the program a chance just like she did.
The Fresh Air Fund is always seeking host families to enable as many New York City children as possible to benefit from a summer experience outside of the city.
