RYE, N.Y. -- Best-selling author and Rye resident Lee Woodruff talks about some of her favorite hotspots in town as part of an interview in the July/August issue of Serendipity magazine .
Woodruff is the wife of former ABC News reporter Bob Woodruff, and co-founder of the Bob Woodruff Foundation , which provides resources to injured service members and their families. She and her husband co-wrote the book "In An Instant: A Family's Journey of Love and Healing" about the injuries he sustained in 2006 while reporting on American troops in Iraq and his subsequent recovery.
Woodruff has also written "Perfectly Imperfect: A Life in Progress," which collects 15 essays on parenting and family. Last year she published her first novel, "Those We Love Most," which tells the story of a family's resilience after their nine-year-old boy is hit by a car.
For her interview in Serendipity, Woodruff was asked by reporter Holly Parmelee how she ended up in Rye.
"Bob has crazy early hours, so the commute was an important factor. The schools were crucial to our decision because we have a hearing-impaired daughter and needed the right services. We also felt that if you could live in a charming town with a small-town feel by the water, why wouldn't you?"
When asked to highlight her favorite spots in Rye, Woodruff said, "Andy's Pure Food – it's a juice bar and vegans restaurant. It would make anybody want to be vegan! I also love Patisserie Salzburg. The owner is an Austrian pastry chef and he has an amazing breakfast and real, European coffee…The Rye Grill & Bar is fun, and that's where I go with family when I don't feel like cooking."
The issue of Serendipity featuring Woodruff is on newsstands now.
