Operation Prom Seeks Westchester Students For Board Positions

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – New Rochelle-based Operation PROM is seeking eight student candidates for two-year terms on its student board.

The nationally recognized organization has given away thousands of free dresses and tuxedos to teens who cannot afford formal wear for their proms. It also provides school supplies and scholarships.

Student board members will be assigned mentors from Operation PROM’s executive board and will learn what it’s like to run a non-profit. They will also help promote its services and assist in community based activities throughout Westchester County.

The term year runs from November through May. Student board members will be required to put in 50 hours each year, attending board meetings and events. Those who successfully complete their two-year terms will be eligible for scholarships through the organization.

To apply for a spot on the board, students must write an essay on why they would like to be part of Operation PROM.

To be eligible, students must be attending public high school in Westchester, be sophomores when school resumes this fall, and hold a minimum 2.5 grade point average.

A current report card/transcript and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator must be emailed to board@HelpPROM.org by Sept. 15. .
