Louis Makrinos, 68, Inventor, Formerly of Rye

RYE, N.Y. – E. Louis Makrinos, a former Rye resident, died May 20 surrounded by his family. He was 68.

Most recently of Oxford, Conn., Makrinos was a successful engineer, inventor and businessman.

He was born July 22, 1943 in Port Chester, NY to the late Markos E. and Mary Paulides Makrinos. He began his career with Picker X-ray Corp. and worked also with North American Philips. Shortly thereafter, he created one of the country's first third party radiology service organizations, ELM X-ray Company.

Headquartered in Old Greenwich, Conn., the company later grew into North-East Imaging, Inc., providing x-ray services to hospitals in the tri-state area as well as purchasing and installing diagnostic imaging equipment.

After a 30-year career in medical imaging, he started Remote Technologies Inc. Along with his daughter, Cheryl, Makrinos developed a wireless, infrared remote exposure control. His other inventions include the Grahampton double-guillotine table model cigar cutter and matching ashtray.

Makrinos is survived by a son, Mark Makrinos, of Stamford, Conn.; a daughter, Cheryl (John Lucarelli) Makrinos, of Greenwich, Conn.; two sisters, Kally (Robert) Mowbray, of Charlestown, R.I. and Athena Belis, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a brother, Andrew (Donna) Makrinos, of Stamford; his former wife, Marianne Makrinos and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour in Rye. Burial will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour, 2195 Westchester Ave. East, Rye, NY 10580.
