RYE, N.Y. -- Barely a week after Tropical Storm Irene, heavy rains could cause more flooding, particularly affecting homes adjacent to Blind Brook.
The house at the end of Central Avenue sits right next to the brook, which overflowed during Tropical Storm Irene, filling up the basement. With heavy rains on Tuesday and expected Wednesday, the National Weather Service has put out flash flood warnings, but homeowner Ashley McComb isn't too concerned.
"Our house sits pretty high up," said McComb. "It will take a lot of rain for the brook to spill over."
The McComb family has lived in the house on Central Avenue for 11 years and was also affected by the flood in 2007, which destroyed the bridge that connects their street to Boston Post Road.
With the recent flood from Irene, the McCombs rented a storage crate, where they put everything that was inside their basement.
The home is equipped with a sump pump, but McComb said she still needs to buy a generator in case the house loses power.
McComb said her family has become "seasoned" from their past experiences with flooding, and they're prepared to deal with it. If the rain lets up after Wednesday evening, she's confident her house will be fine, but it may not be the case for other houses that don't sit as high.
