Eleanor Lush, 96, Longtime Rye Resident

RYE, N.Y. — Eleanor Caroline Lush of Rye died May 6 at Greenwich Hospital after a brief illness. She was 96.  

A longtime Rye resident, Lush worked for many years at General Foods Corp., where she managed the company bank. 

The daughter of John Jordan Kelly Sr. and Gertrude Herderich Niedringhaus Kelly, she was born Feb. 9, 1916, at United Hospital in Port Chester. As a young girl, she lived in Greenwich, Conn., and attended the Havemeyer School. 

On Nov. 14, 1942, she married Walter Edgar Lush, who predeceased her in 1952. After retiring, she remained an active member of the General Foods Northeast Alumni Association. She was a volunteer for 35 years at United Hospital, and after it closed, she began volunteering at the Osborn in Rye, where she served until a few years ago. She was also a parishioner of Resurrection Church. 

She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Gedney, and a brother, John Jordan Kelly Jr. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Lush Richardson of Albany, N.Y.; a brother, Daniel Jordan Kelly of Rye; and a grandson. 

Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection Church in Rye. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Coveleigh Club in Rye.
