RYE, N.Y. Daniel Beaton of Rye died May 17. He was 86.
Most recently a resident of The Osborn in Rye, Beaton served as president of Community Synagogue in Rye.
Born Aug. 20, 1925 in Bronx, N.Y. to Nathan and Ida Beaton, he graduated from Townsend Harris High School at the age of 15. Beaton received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from City College three years later.
He graduated from New York University with a masters in civil engineering and attended Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y. for doctoral studies. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radar instructor.
Beaton spent most of his professional career as a partner in Rose, Beaton & Rose in White Plains. The firm specialized in telecommunications buildings and was one of the largest architectural and engineering firms in New York at the time.
He also served as president of Sands Point School Parent Teacher Association in Long Island, N.Y. and Community Synagogue in Port Washington, N.Y. and was active in many charitable endeavors.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Ruth Sobleman Beaton; two sons, Dr. Howard Beaton and Neal (Dr. Ann) Beaton; a daughter, Dianne (Brian) Heaps; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Community Synagogue of Rye. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
