The one day event features more than 45 artists painting landscapes and iconic images in Rye and along Long Island Sound to be sold that evening in a live auction.
Painters arrive in Rye as early as 7 a.m. and depart with paints, palettes, easels and snacks to spend the day painting plein-air, a French term for “open air” and a style of painting that became popular more than 100 years ago.
A tradition in Rye for more than 10 years, this event allows painters to showcase their plein-air skills, and for people to come together to celebrate art.
The event is free and open to the public. Painters will be painting from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The live art auction starts at 6:15 p.m. at The Rye Arts Center, preceded by a reception from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. to view the works painted that day. There is a suggested donation of $20, which includes the price of an auction bid paddle.
Proceeds raised by the event support local artists as well as the mission of The Rye Arts Center, "to inspire and increase participation in the arts and support its outreach and arts education programming."
