Collins, Former Rye Deputy Mayor, Dies at 83

RYE, N.Y. - Edward J. Collins, former deputy mayor of Rye, died Dec. 21 at the age of 83.

Born in Rochester, N.Y. on Aug. 29, 1928, he attended Aquinas High School, served in the US Navy and later earned his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1950 and his master's in business administration from Wharton School of Business.

Collins became a managing partner with Arthur Andersen and Company accounting firm. He headed the Frankfurt, Germany office and later the office in Stamford, Conn. until his retirement in 1987.

For six years, Collins served as councilman for the City of Rye and later as deputy mayor. He devoted his later life to relentless volunteer work.

Collins is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy "Dottie", his sons Edward and Peter, his daughter Ellen and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. The funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Church of the Resurrection.
