Agent Views Real Estate From the Sound

Nancy Everett, a real estate agent with the Rye office of William Raveis has a unique view on the real Westchester real estate market. She sees a lot of it from the water, sailing with her family and friends. "I enjoy sailing," she says. "Being out on the water clears my head. You see things from a different perspective." And with her iPad and smart phone on board, Nancy can stay close to her clients wherever she is.

With public-access beaches and private clubs taking up much of Rye's waterfront, private homes on the water go for a premium. Last summer, Nancy sold the most expensive home in Westchester County and the most expensive home in Rye's Multiple Listing Service (MLS) history recent Rye history - a renovated and expanded shingle house on 1.6 acres on Milton Point. Every room has views of Long Island Sound, she says. The eight-thousand-square-foot house, which also has a two-story guesthouse, sold for $11.6 million.

Nancy started in real estate when she returned home from Australia where her husband, Nick Everett, had been commissioned to design new parks for the capital, Canberra.  She joined the board of the YMCA and was drawn into real estate by Joan Bomann, owner of Realty3. "Having always been interested in houses and especially decorating,” she says, "I was anxious to start a career in real estate." After more than 16 years Nancy says she enjoys the business more than ever.

William Raveis purchased Realty3 in 2009 and has since acquired five other Westchester offices.

Nancy says the real estate market has stayed busy in Rye, despite the downturn, because the town is such a sought-after community, with its easy commute to New York, highly rated public and private schools and, of course, the Long Island Sound coastline. She's philosophical about the ups and downs of the business. The frustrating times are offset by the good times. “I always put the client first,” she says. “When things don’t work out, you have to pick up the pieces and move on."
