Rye Among Best Places To Live In New York

RYE, N.Y. -- Real estate blog Movoto.com recently ranked Rye as the eighth-best place to live in New York, tying it with Ossining.

Movoto compiled a list of municipalities within the state with 10,000 people or more from the 2010 U.S. Census. The site then ranked the 87 qualifying areas on the following criteria:

  • Total amenities
  • Quality of life (cost of living, median home price, median rent, median household income, and student to teacher ratio)
  • Total crimes
  • Tax rates (sales tax and income tax)
  • Unemployment
  • Commute time
  • Weather (temperature and air quality)

Rye placed in the top 10 in three categories: unemployment (fourth) and tax rate (seventh) and weather quality (ninth).  The city of more than 15,000 also placed 15th in quality of life.

Rye struggled in commute times and amenities, ranking 81st and 62nd out of 87 communities, respectively.

The overall score of 27.43 for Rye placed it oustisde of the top seven spots which were held by Mamaroneck, Tarrytown, White Plains, Mount Kisco, Scarsdale, Harrison and Dobbs Ferry.

Westchester Communities dominated the top of the list with Rye tying Ossining for eighth and New Rochelle tying Saratoga Springs for 10th.
