The CD, with collaborators Peter Basquin, pianist, Jazz Drummer Tony Moreno, and the New York City Ballet Flute Section is an homage to the flute that features varying styles and composers.

It includes Dunkel's transcription of Dimitri Shostakovich's dramatic Cello Sonata, his own composition, "Quatre Visions Pour Quartre Flutistes" and two works by Israeli composer Tamar Muskal, Mechanofin and Sof, commissioned by Dunkel for "Soundscapes," his New York City Recital series.

Dunkel says he gets his inspiration from other composers, making for an "honest form of plagiarism."

His favorite music to play: "Anything by Bach—and I worship Mozart, though he's harder to play than you'd think."

Dunkel, who served in his Westchester position for 25 years, is currently the Principal Flutist of the New York City Ballet Orchestra.
