Young Bands Set To Battle It Out At Rye Playland

RYE, N.Y. – Young bands will have their moment in the spotlight Friday, July 20, at Rye Playland’s Ninth Annual Battle of the Bands, with the chance to take the stage at the Music Tower Theater for a shot at the grand prize.

Last year's champ, topping a field of six bands, was Howling Hour of Yonkers. The band received a Battle of the Bands trophy and a guaranteed spot in this year’s competition.

The defending champion will compete this year with Bloodline (Scarsdale), Jumpstart Tomorrow (North Babylon), Rockin’ One Way (Mahopac), Room 237 (Rye), Rye & St. Patrick’s (Rye) and Working Disorder (New York City).

These groups were selected from a pool of 20 bands. All music will be decided upon by a panel of judges. In addition to the performances, spectators can watch a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m.

All bands chosen to compete are composed of amateur musicians between the ages of 15 and 20. Bands were chosen based upon an original music sample or a unique interpretation of a cover song.

Regular Playland admission fees apply, and parking is $5 on Friday. Rain date for the competition is Friday, July 27.

The event is presented by Westchester County Parks and the Friends of Westchester County Parks, Inc.
