What's Happening In Rye This Weekend

RYE, N.Y. – Family movie night, Shakespeare at Rye Town Park and the Rye Brook Farmers Market are some of the events on tap this weekend in Rye.

Friday, Aug. 10

Rye Free Reading Room’s Dream Big Summer Fun Club: 3:30-4:30 p.m. Join the Rye Free Reading Room every week for books, movies and crafts for ages 5 and up. This week’s theme is “I Dreamed I Won a Gold Medal.” Listen to stories about athletic feats and make any Olympic craft. Free. Rye Free Reading Room is located at 1061 Boston Post Road.

Shakespeare at Rye Town Park: 5:45 p.m. Performance of William Shakespeare’s comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” on the lawn by the lifeguard station at Rye Town Park at the east end of Dearborn Avenue. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Admission is free. Parking after 5 p.m. is $5, free for park season permit holders. Light refreshments will be available for purchase. Movie Night In the Park “Dolphin Tale”: 8 p.m. Presented by Rye Brook Recreation at Village Hall, 938 King St. in Rye Brook. Admission is free. Refreshments will be sold.

Fireworks at Rye Playland: 9:15 p.m. A fireworks display over Long Island Sound begins at 9:15 p.m. Admission is free. Parking is $5 and $1 for senior citizens with a Westchester County Parks Pass. Saturday, Aug. 11

Rye Brook Farmers Market: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Support local vendors at the outdoor market at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at the corner of King Street and Comly Avenue in Rye Brook.

Summer at the Library Reading Buddies Program: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Enhance reading skills and encourage a love of books by pairing your child with a teen buddy for one-on-one reading time. Sign up in the Children’s Room or call 914-231-3162 to book a 20-minute session for your child to read with a teen. Reading selections may be of the child’s choice or from a school’s required reading list. Please note that the Reading Buddies Program is not tutoring. Free.
