Friday, Aug. 3

Rye Free Reading Room’s Dream Big Summer Fun Club: 3:30-4:30 p.m. Join the Rye Free Reading Room every week for books, movies and crafts for ages 5 and up. Free. Rye Free Reading Room is located at 1061 Boston Post Road.

Shakespeare at Rye Town Park: 5:45 p.m. Premiere of William Shakespeare’s comedy “Much Ado About Nothing” on the lawn by the lifeguard station at Rye Town Park at the east end of Dearborn Avenue. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Admission is free. Parking after 5 p.m. is $5, free for park season permit holders. Light refreshments will be available for purchase. Milt Gerver Orchestra at Rye Playland: 7:30-10:30 p.m. The band will play the music of 1930s and '40s bandleaders such as Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, accompanied by professional vocalists. A fireworks display over Long Island Sound begins at 9:15 p.m. Admission is free. Parking is $5, and $1 for senior citizens with a Westchester County Parks Pass. Feel Free Fast at Wainwright House: 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Wainwright House, 260 Stuyvesant Ave., Rye. Gayla Yates-Gordon and Barry Gordon, co-creators of Feel Free Fast, will teach you how to boost your self-esteem, shift your nagging emotional problems, eliminate your bad habits, dissolve negative core beliefs and alleviate post-traumatic stress disorders. Admission is $88 for nonmembers, $77 for Wainwright House Friends/Members. Bring a box lunch and enjoy the waterfront gardens and labyrinth. Port Chester Fest: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. outside of Open Door on Purdy Avenue between Church Street and Don Bosco Place. Crafts and jewelry vendors, food vendors representing countries from around the world, workshops for kids and multicultural music from the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, the Bethesda Baptist Intergenerational Church Choir, Zumba Fitness Party, Capoeira Performance Arts, Bolivian Carnival Dancers, tango musicians and rhythm and blues singer Curtis Winchester and Friends. The first annual Multicultural Fashion Show, featuring local children wearing clothing and jewelry from their country of origin, begins at 1:30 p.m. on Purdy Avenue. Admission to the fest is free. Summer at the Library Reading Buddies Program: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Enhance reading skills and encourage a love of books by pairing your child with a teen buddy for one-on-one reading time. Sign up in the Children’s Room or call 914-231-3162 to book a 20-minute session for your child to read with a teen. Reading selections may be of the child’s choice or from a school’s required reading list. Please note that the Reading Buddies Program is not tutoring. Free.
