What's Happening In Rye This Weekend

RYE, N.Y. – Big band music at Playland and a children’s movie screening are some of the eventsplanned for this weekend in Rye.

Friday, July 13

“The Adventures of Tin Tin” Screening: 3:30 p.m.-5:20 p.m. in the Community Reading Room of the Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road. Admission to all “Dream Big Summer Fun Flick” events is free and for ages 5 and up.  

Gatsby On the Sound Benefit Night: 7 p.m. A fundraising evening to benefit Wainwright House programs, featuring the music of The Gary Adamson Jazz Trio, along with dinner and a silent auction. Milt Gerver Orchestra at Rye Playland: 7:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. The band will play the music of 1930s and 1940s bandleaders such as Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, accompanied by professional vocalists. A fireworks display over the Long Island Sound begins at 9:15 p.m. Admission is free. Parking is $5 on Fridays and $1 for senior citizens with a Westchester County Parks Pass. “Godspell” Performance: 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Presented by the Port Chester Council For The Arts’ summer theater season. The show is a reunion for alumni of all the previous council productions of the popular musical based on the Gospel of Matthew. It tells the story of Jesus and his disciples through a series of skits and songs set in modern-day society. Stephen Schwartz wrote the songs and John-Michael Tebelak wrote the book. Denise Colangelo, executive director for the council, co-directs the performance with her daughter Christina. Cindy Moore returns as musical director. The performances will take place at the Girl Scout House, 60 Parkway Drive in Port Chester.

Saturday, July 14

Rye Brook Farmers Market: 10 a.m. Featuring local farmers. Every second and fourth Saturday of the month through October at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 761 King St. in Rye Brook. Admission is free.

Miriam’s Attic Sale: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Miriam’s Attic, located at 101 Theall Road in Rye. All proceeds benefit The Osborn Charity Care Program, providing for older adults to live at the Osborn or receive home services through Osborn Home Care.

Port Chester Varsity Cheerleaders Car Wash: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Support the high school varsity cheerleading squad with a $10 car wash at Port Chester Middle School, 113 Bowman Ave. in Rye Brook.
