What To Do In The Rye Area This Weekend

Friday, Feb. 8

Valentines Day Event: 3:30-4:30 p.m. Children ages 5 and older can listen to Valentine’s Day stories and make a gift during this special fun club occasion. Rye Free Reading Room, 1061 Boston Post Road.

Saturday, Feb. 9

Rye Mardi Gras Parade: 2 p.m. Children ages 4 and older will celebrate the Mardi Gras holiday with beads, masks and music. Participants also will decorate green, gold, and purple cupcakes, as well as decorate masks to parade with through the Rye Free Reading Room. Pre-registration is required. Coffee With Otis and Latimer: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents can meet, and share issues, problems and ideas with state Assemblyman Steve Otis and state Sen. George Latimer during their first-ever “A Cup of Joe with Steve and George,” event in Port Chester. Latimer is continuing the event after previously doing it with former county legislator Martin Rogowsky. No appointment is necessary. Staff from both offices will be in attendance to discuss individual concerns. Informational literature related to state issues also will be available. Port Chester Senior Center, 220 Grace Church Street (around the back of Village Hall)

Sunday, Feb. 10

Rye Quilt Lecture: 3-5 p.m. Residents can learn about the history of their quilt, other cloths and different aspects of the craft through the years during this special talk by Hallie Bond of the New York Council for the Humanities entitled “Common Threads: Adirondack Quilts.” Those interested need to make a reservation by e-mailing Jay Heritage Center Program Director Heather Craane at jayhc@earthlink.net or by calling  (914) 698-9275.
