NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. --  More than 250 people showed up at New Rochelle High School Monday, Aug. 21 for the lunar eclipse of the sun.

The event was organized by the school's astronomy teacher Bruce Zeller who said he was pleased -- if not a little overwhelmed -- by the crowd. The event had promised free solar eclipse glasses to all but quickly ran out.

In order to see the eclipse, it was necessary to use solar glasses and a telescope.

Zeller advised sharing. After all, he said, you can only look at the sun for 10 seconds.

He also had two telescopes on hand which Chelsea Rose of Larchmont was happy to look through. "It's super cool," she said.

Iran Bravo of New Rochelle, agreed, saying it was a once in a lifetime event she was excited to experience.

The McKenna Field gathering had a party atmosphere, with folks bringing beach chairs and setting up large tents.
