Stratford Car Thief Steals Baby Formula in Darien

DARIEN, Conn. – A man stole $134 worth of baby formula from a Darien grocery store Friday after stealing a car in Stratford earlier in the week, police said. Employees at the Stop & Shop on Heights Road reported that at 7:45 p.m. a man set off the emergency alarm when he slipped out the back door carrying a basket with 10 cans of Gerber Good Start baby formula. He ran to a parked car near Edgerton Street. The employees wrote down the plate number. Police said the plate belonged to a gray 1995 Buick Century that had been stolen from a Stratford home June 22.

• Kevin Wandzilak, 30, of 19 Devonshire Drive, was arrested Monday, June 20, after an argument with his brother. Police received a call at 11 p.m. from the residence, saying that Wandzilak had tried to pick a fight with his brother. Police determined that protective order prohibited Wandzilak from being on the property. When police arrived, he fled. But officers later found him on the eastbound platform at the Noroton Heights train station. He was arrested for violation of a protective order. He did not post $2,500 bond and went to court the next day.

• A mountain bike was reported stolen from the Darien train station Monday, June 20. The owner told police he had locked his $450 blue and purple Schwinn bike to the bike rack at 5:30 a.m. When he returned at 6:40 p.m., the bike and the cable lock were gone.

• A car was broken into at the Tokeneke Club on Monday, June 20. The owner of a 2007 Mercedes GL450 left her car unlocked in the parking lot near the tennis courts from 2 to 3 p.m. When she returned, a $300 iPhone that had been left in the cup holder was gone.
