Rye YMCA, Jay Heritage Center Host School Garden Workshop

RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye YMCA and Jay Heritage Center are co-sponsoring “Seeds to Schools: Building Gardens, Building Community,” a free, half-day workshop on developing and sustaining school-based edible gardens.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Jay Heritage Center Carriage House, 210 Boston Post Road in Rye.

The panel discussions will feature speakers from schools across Westchester County who will cover such topics as starting a garden, how to use the produce, sustaining your garden and connecting curriculum to gardening.

Garden-related nonprofit organizations and businesses will also be on hand to distribute information and discuss existing resources with attendees.

Light refreshments will be served. Attendees are also welcome to bring a cold lunch and a re-usable water bottle. A gift basket, courtesy of Whole Foods, will be raffled at the workshop.
