Runners can choose between a 5K race and a 5 mile race, both starting at 10:15 a.m. In honor of the Rye Y‘s 100th birthday, the first 100 runners over the finish line will be recognized. The 1 mile family fun run/walk starts at 12:15 p.m. Medals are given to championship race winners in their age groups and there is a cash purse for the top first, second and third place winners in the 5 mile race.

"Several world class athletes as well as local runners are expected to participate in the races," representatives said. "A morning of active fun and festivities is planned at the Rye Y for Healthy Kids Day."

Starting at 10:30 a.m., families are invited to gather at the Rye Y for active games, live music and a BBQ. The afternoon will culminate with the fun run.

"The proceeds from the Rye Derby and other fundraising events replenish our Y Cares Fund...and give hope to those who need it most," representatives said. "The Rye Y has made a powerful promise to our community: no-one will be turned away from a Y program or activity because he or she can't pay. In 2013 alone, we awarded over $625,000 in financial assistance to our neighbors in Rye, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Port Chester, Harrison and beyond."

The race and fun run participants are encouraged to register in advance by visiting the Rye YMCA website or stopping by Rye YMCA Member Services at 21 Locust Ave. in Rye. The first 600 registered runners will receive free t-shirts. The fee for the 5 mile and 5K race is $25 or $30 the day of the race. The fun run/walk fee is $20. Those who are interested in volunteering are asked to contact Margaret Mead at 914-967-6363, ext. 403.
