RYE, N.Y. -- The Rye YMCA and Jay Heritage Center are set to host a special school gardens workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
The program, known as "Seeds to Schools: A School Gardens Workshop," is set to run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jay Heritage Center at 210 Boston Post Road in Rye. The program is a free half-day workshop on starting and sustaining school-based edible gardens. Fourteen panelists from nine different schools and one business will share their experiences on starting a garden, using the produce, sustaining the garden and connecting classroom curriculum to hands-on outdoor learning, representatives said.
The program is sponsored by the Jay Heritage Center and the Rye YMCA. Non-profit organizations will be on hand to provide information about existing resources for school gardens. The snow date for the event is Wednesday, Feb. 12.
In the event of inclement weather, residents are asked to check the Rye YMCA website for updates. To register, residents are asked to contact Denise Woodin at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 914-967-6363.
