The Westchester County Office for the Disabled and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation have once again partnered with the Tommie Cares Foundation, which is sponsoring the event for the second year in a row.

“Playland Day gives people with disabilities an opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy a day of fun and excitement with their families as well as thousands of others who share their same experiences,” County Executive Rob Astorino said. “I want to thank Tom Kallish and the whole Tommie Cares team for their partnership and continued support of this great event, and all our other sponsors and volunteers.”

The Playland rides will not be the only fun, as the Tommie Cares Foundation has organized for there to be water sports at Rye Beach. Specially trained lifeguards and athletes will be taking some of the children on adventures such as outrigger canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddling. These will begin at 8 a.m., and advance registration must be done online at www.tommiecares.org.

“We are so happy to support Westchester County and the Office for the Disabled in the annual Playland Day event,” Kallish, founder of Tommie Cares, said. Traffic control, registration and assistance on the rides will be provided by Verizon, one of the sponsors of the event. Pepsi has also donated gifts and prizes for volunteers.

No rain date has been scheduled for the event. Call the Office for the Disabled at 995-2956 or the Tommie Cares Foundation at 917-283-2292 for more information.
