RYE, N.Y. -- In a celebration of International Women's Day 2013, a discussion on the “Contributions of Women to Peacebuilding Operations” will be held at the Rye Historical Society on Sunday.
The event will be hosted by the United Nations Association of the USA-Westchester Chapter and the Rye Historical Society.
The event will feature Judy Cheng-Hopkins, who has been the United Nations assistant secretary-general for peacebuilding support since 2009. Her U.N. career spans more than 30 years of development and humanitarian work in Africa and Asia, with a 10-year stint in the field in Africa. She is a citizen of Malaysia and lives in Westchester with her family.
The honored guest will be Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the first woman to be elected conference
leader of the New York State Legislature.
The program will be followed by a Q & A session and discussion moderated by Marcia Brewster, president of UNA-Westchester.
Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m., and the event will be 3 to 5 p.m. at the Square House Museum, 1 Purchase St., Rye. Refreshments will be served following the program.
