RYE BROOK, N.Y. Crawford Park in Rye Brook will transform into a festival of mixed media arts Saturday for the second annual ART10573, presented by the Port Chester Council For The Arts.
Each artist has some tie to Rye, Rye Brook or Port Chester and are participating due to the word-of-mouth success of last years event, according to Brigitte Loritz, event chair and contributing artist. Were concentrating on local artists so far, but that doesnt mean we wont spread out next year, she said. Of course, Crawford Park is ideal. I dont ever want to do it so that it gets enormous.
Loritz once chaired the Byram River Arts Festival, a similar event that began at the marina then moved to Lyons Park. That show kind of fizzled out, so we resurrected it, she said.
The artists will present work in a variety of media, including watercolor, oil, acrylic, ceramics, scratch art, and mixed media. Id like to not rely too heavily on one medium or another, said Loritz. There are some oils, acrylics, drawings, watercolor, of course, and then pottery and jewelry.
Loritz has been teaching at the Rye Arts Center for more than 25 years and is the artist-in-residence at all Port Chester elementary schools. She was born and educated in Switzerland and studied at the Kunstgewerbe Schule in Zurich, and also studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Watercolor is my love, she said. My favorite subjects are landscapes and flowers and I do local scenes, like Playland.
The artists most of whom live in, or are from, Port Chester include acrylic painter Grace Mora, Assistant Superintendent of Port Chester Public Schools Frank Fanelli, Academy Award-nominated animator Vincent Bell, watercolor artist Ina Wishner, a former Rye Brook resident, award-winning watercolor artist Christine Morgan Teter, muralist and painter Angel Pena, Jess Palmer, who specializes in ceramics, graphic artist James Scinto, and pen and ink artist Chet Risio.
Each artist has donated a small piece for an hourly raffle, with proceeds going to the scholarship fund for the summer Arts Camp sponsored by the Port Chester Council for the Arts.
Musical entertainment throughout the day will be provided by Joan Morenstein, Donna Cribari and Port Chester Superintendent Edward Kliszus.
The festival runs Saturday at Crawford Park, 122 N. Ridge St., Rye Brook, from 12 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. In case of rain, the art show will be moved inside to the Crawford Mansion.
