Rye Arts Center Community Announces Upcoming Events, Classes

RYE, N.Y.-- The Rye Arts Center has released its schedule of upcoming events and classes. Here's a look at some of what's being offered:

Half Day for Half Pints: Classes begin Sept. 16 for new Pre-K arts immersion half day program offered Monday and Friday mornings or Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.  Classes are available by semester or full year, but enrollment is limited. Call 967-0700 for information.

Tweens & Teens programs for the 21st Century Artist: Enrollment is open for three new programs to stimulate creative thinking in 21st century design and building, all set in small group settings.

  • Siege Machines and Medieval Fortresses Ages 11-13 Fridays: 5:00-6:00 p.m 8 classes beginning Sept. 27. Join the fun as students learn to create miniature versions of medieval siege machines and fortresses! Lots of fun while learning creative mechanics. All supplies included. Limited to 8 students.
  • Friday evening Arts is a class that covers painting, drawing, creative building, writing, media arts for students that don't thrive in large classroom settings. Class is limited to six students and runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every Friday. 
  • Students learn the concepts of balance, friction, kinetic energy and more in the Lego Engineering class. Students ages 7 to 9 years old will meet every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. while students ages 10-12 years old will meet Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Intro to Rock ‘n Roll Guitar: Students ages 8 to 10 years old will learn how to read simple chords and melodies to play popular songs and have the chance to write their own. Classes take place Saturdays from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Draw Absolutely Anything (For Adults): Artist Marilyn Rabetz will guide adult aspiring artists through the four most important elements in drawing realistically. Classes will be held on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

The Rising Artists Program for Teens at The Rye Arts Center: The Rye Arts Center’s brand new program for teens this Fall specially designed to mentor teens interested in exploring careers in creative fields. The course is designed to expose teens to careers in fields such as advertising, digital animation, film-making, journalism, publishing, media arts, photography, fashion, illustration, music, performing arts and more. Classes will meet Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
