Roger Ball To Headline Rye Arts Center Jazz Event

RYE, N.Y. – Hot jazz standards, high energy funk and R&B will set the mood for the "September Sound Explosion" on Sept. 28 at the Rye Arts Center, featuring Roger Ball, co-founder of the Scottish funk group Average White Band.

Ball, co-founder, former band member and writer of Average White Band’s hit “Pick Up the Pieces,” will perform with the John Fumasoli/Bill Harris sextet. Ball’s arranging and performing credits include work with Badfinger, Elton John, Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye, as well as Michael and Randy Brecker.

“When John invited me to play with his group, I didn’t hesitate because I know that he always plays with awesome musicians and enjoys an interesting blend of jazz and funk,” Ball said in a statement.

“Roger and I go back quite a ways musically and personally as I taught his son in middle school band and worked with him both on an 'Average White Band' album and shortly after on his own project called 'Street Struttin' in 1995,” Fumasoli said in a statement. “Ever since then we have done various gigs together, live and recorded. The playing has been strong, always with a great vibe.”

Seating is limited. To buy tickets, visit www.ryeartscenter.org or call 914-967-0700. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students. The Rye Arts Center is located at 51 Milton Road in Rye.
