RYE, N.Y. -- Families descended Saturday morning upon Sterling Park at the Osborn Home in Rye for the annual Easter egg hunt.
Sterling Park Manager Janet Malong said the event drew the largest crowd ever in its nearly 15-year history crediting the bright, sunny weather and the welcoming feeling the Osborn Home offers.
We invest in the community and this is a fun celebration that has grown, Malong said. I cant even estimate how many people are here today thats how many we have.
The Rye Lions Club was on hand selling chocolate for a fundraiser. Rye Lions President Robert Van Der Wateren said the club has been helping out at the Easter egg hunt the past four years. Van Der Wateren also credited the nice weather and good marketing by both his club and the Osborn Home as to why the crowd was so large.
Easter is a nice time of year that begins the spring season, Van Der Wateren said. Its the end of winter and people are going outside to enjoy the nice weather. If youre religious, Easter gives you a chance to celebrate your holy days and be with your loved ones.
The event also gave senior citizens who reside at the Osborn home a chance to be more of a part of the community. Van Der Wateren said the residents were very enthused by all the young people at the home and the amount of activity. Malong added the Osborn Home does a lot of outreach with the community.
Our mission is to be a good neighbor and community citizen, Malong said. With the advent of spring, more people are outside and enjoying more companionship.
